U.S. Coast Guard GLRI Projects

U.S. Coast Guard Logo

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) has used GLRI funding for projects that will help remediate toxic substances at old lighthouses and improve oil spill response capabilities in unique fresh water and seasonally frozen environments in the Great Lakes. USCG projects will also improve the performance of ballast water treatment systems that will operate on the Great Lakes and increase the USCG’s ability to ensure compliance with the ballast water discharge standards. These enhancements will prevent ballast water-mediated introductions of aquatic invasive species into the Great Lakes ecosystem.
